LEPHALALE — 18 security officers were arrested at a business complex in Lephalale on Sunday 27 January after it came to the police’s attention that they were not registered at the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
They were arrested for the contravention of PSIRA Act 5 of 2001, Section 20 (1) a.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Cluster spokesperson, they appeared in court on Monday 28 January and J534 summons were issued for the 18 officers.
A J534 summons is a written notice to appear in court or to pay a certain amount to the court.
According to WO Mokoena, two of the officers paid an amount of R100. The others still have 14 days to pay.
WO Mokoena explained that it is essential for any security officer to be registered at PSIRA. Failing to do so will end in arrest.
The name of the security company involved is withheld to prevent prejudice with further investigations.
