RIBONE — A 42-year-old man has been arrested following the murder of two 5-year-old girls from Ribone village, Gilead.
The two friends, Lekwelo Ennie Masola and Nthabiseng Motlaphema, went missing on Wednesday evening 25 May after they were last seen playing at another house in the RDP section. SAPS members together with the community launched a large search and after almost three days the naked bodies of the two girls were found hanging from a tree in the bush approximately 3 km from the town on Saturday. The possibility that they might have been raped before being killed is also being investigated.
On Tuesday 31 May further investigation and questioning led to the release of the 42-year-old suspect as he could not be connected to the kidnapping and murder of the victims.
Two other suspects, Harry Sebola (31) and Herbert Serumula (24) were arrested on Tuesday by members from the provincial tracking team. They appeared in the Mokerong Magistrates Court in Mahwelereng on the same day on charges of kidnapping, rape and murder. The cases were remanded to Monday 6 June and the suspects remain in custody.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Limpopo Lt. Genl. Nneke Ledwaba expressed his shock and outrage over this heinous act especially with the protection and rights of children being celebrated this week. He urged parents to protect and look after their children and to always know of their whereabouts and whether they are safe.
