2017 – In die nuus/In the news:

Later in January a man who lived and hoarded a variety of goods on the corner of OR Tambo and Fox Odendaal street was arrested by the police because of the public outcry and health reasons. All his carefully collected possessions, from rotting meat to old shoes and shopping trolleys were removed by the Waste Department of the Lephalale Municipality.
His fury and dismay at the fact that everyone wanted to destroy his things and charge him will stay with me. He had neatly cordoned off the whole corner with trolleys for privacy. One wonders where he ended up?
In the 3 February edition there was a showdown over Tony Freitas from Bosveld Sentra and the possible illegal sale of rhino horn. To date it is still uncertain as to who took those horns. Rhino controversy indeed.
The edition of 24 February screamed out about a head on collision. The photograph of the crumpled red BMW was on every conceivable public media magazine. A 26 year old passenger and a 32 year old male, the driver of the car, died instantly.
The second edition in March carried a terrible heart wrenching story of a dog found in the veld, its neck still attached to the chain that hung from a tree. The public reacted strongly to this.
Wonderbaarlik is almal ongedeerd.
Just the following week it was announced that the TVET College in Lephalale was totally on line and that students have Wi-Fi access at specific places on campus. This was a great improvement and everyone rejoiced – but we heard later that it did not work so well.
April started with a sad story about Anicia Molongoana who was frying chips in her tuck shop in Marapong when her 8 year old daughter ran to her, shouting that the room where the two small children were sleeping, was on fire. Her baby girl sustained severe burns and Anicia and her baby girl visited me at the office a few times after that incident.
Kristian sterf Woensdag 26 April.
