WITPOORT — The 23-year-old Kgothatso David Thutlwa was sentenced to three times life imprisonment in the Lephalale Regional Court on Tuesday 17 March 2020.
He wasn’t given an option to pay a fine on the three counts of rape (two in 2015 and one in 2016) that all happened at his residence in Kauletse Village outside Lephalale in the Witpoort Policing area.
The three rape victims are aged between 14 and 21 years old.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Cluster spokesperson, the one victim was taken from her home and the other one was with her boyfriend who was threatened with a knife by the suspect. Both women were raped in the suspect’s room. The dates when the incidents happened was on 22 September 2015 around midnight and on 9 March 2015 around 20:00.
The 14-year-old victim was raped on 16 October 2016.
She was with his friends around midnight and they were on their way home when he grabbed her, took her to his room and raped her. She managed to escape later and was assisted by neighbours.
During the investigations, the suspect was linked to the victims through DNA.
The case was investigated by Sergeant Thul`are of Lephalale FCS where he started to work in 2011.
During the period from 2011 until now, he managed to get 20 suspects sentenced to life imprisonment.
