LEPHALALE — The staff of Mediclinic Lephalale celebrated the hospital’s fifth birthday on Thursday 15 November. Staff members who were there when Mediclinic Lephalale was officially opened as well as newer staff members were part of the celebrations.
Hospital Manager Dalene de Villiers welcomed everyone and said she is very proud to say that although they had a challenging year, the patient satisfaction scores improved a lot.
“We, as a team, also succeeded in managing our operational costs even though it was quite a difficult year financially. We had to work very hard to remain viable, cost efficient, look after our community and have an impact.
“We understand how important the hospital is for the community. I want to thank everybody. No hospital can function with only one or two people – it is a team effort. It is important that we all work well together and that is why I am so proud of this team. During this year we all regrouped, taken the challenges and made a success.
“Five years is a fantastic milestone and if we look at the normal life span of a hospital, we are in the growth phase. One of the things we need to do in the near future is to expand our services and to consider the needs of the community, ensuring we remain relevant and that we provide to the needs of the community.
“That is why we intend to go forward in 2019, focusing on our hospital and the role that we play in the community.
“One of the issues that we have identified is the high incidence of drug abuse and the devastating consequences for the families, friends and the community as a whole.
“It is sad and unfortunate that the abuse of drugs is very real amongst the young people and a huge problem. We want to make a difference. All of us want to donate some of our time to assist and educate the community to ensure that we address this huge problem.
To everybody – for the commitment and loyalty, especially the staff who were part of opening the doors of Mediclinic Lephalale, we really appreciate the loyalty and commitment. To the new team – you are already part of our family and part of the success is the dedication and hard work of everybody.
To those who go on leave, it is well deserved, you’ve worked extremely hard.
She gave a special word of thanks to Celia Sharp, Nursing Manager. “Nursing is not always an easy task but under your very capable hands, you manage the hospital. Again, sometimes it is very challenging to work with less people and still ensure quality, safe care and good patient experience. You give more than a 100% for this hospital. We all see it and we appreciate it,” Dalene said.
The staff and management thank everyone in the community, friends and patients, who support Mediclinic Lephalale – “we appreciate the support”.
“We are a community hospital for the community therefore we appreciate positive and negative feedback because it helps us to improve our services. This is only the beginning!” Dalene concluded.
