6 years for attempted rape

GA-SELEKA — A Zimbabwean national, Happy Moyo (44), was sentenced to six years imprisonment in the Lephalale Regional Court on Tuesday 15 January 2019.

Moyo was sentenced for the attempted rape of a mother (56) and her daughter (32) on 2 July 2016 in Kgobagodimo Village (Klipspruit) in Ga-Seleka.

According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Cluster spokesperson, the mother and daughter went to prepare the field to plant crops when they were approached by the accused who attacked them and attempted to rape them.

A description of Moyo as well as the direction to where he went was given to the investigating officer, Constable Frans Thulare of Lephalale Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) whereafter Moyo was found in Kauletse Village about 3 km from Ga-Seleka Village. He was arrested and detained in Witpoort Police holding cells for further investigation. An identity parade was conducted and both women could easily identified him as the suspect.
