LEPHALALE — A 80 km/h sign on the R33, on the bridge approximately 300 m before the traffic circle, was recently replaced with a 120 km/h sign. Nearing the town there is a 100 km/h sign and after that a 120 km/h sign. This should surely be a mistake but it misleads motorists and it is dangerous nearing the town at a speed of 120 km/h.
A reader brought it to Mogol Post’s attention and the issue was referred to the Lephalale Local Municipality who then referred it to the Department of Public Works where a spokesperson at the municipality confirmed that SANRAL is responsible for road maintenance and road signs on the R33 as it is not a municipal road. However, at the time of going to press, Mogol Post could not reach the responsible person at SANRAL for comment.
