Lephalale — A call on a Wednesday morning gave two women from the Happy Hands group the opportunity of a lifetime. Mary-Ann Leask and Johanna Lebudi were invited to attend a workshop in Polokwane hosted by Husqvarna.
Ann Nel, a well-known quilter and sewing specialist from Polokwane and Nicky Selby of Husqvarna presented this Sew Away Workshop where Mary-Ann and Johanna had the great opportunity to make their own quilt-handbags.
The three full day course included lots of hard work, cake and even dancing.
“People were so friendly. I still cannot believe that I had this great opportunity,” says Johanna.
Ann says: “It was such a privilege to show Mary-Ann and Johanna more about quilting. Especially Johanna, who learnt a lot and stole our hearts. We would love to see more women from Lephalale in the future.”
Johanna and Mary-Ann are very proud of the bags they made and will pass this knowledge and skills on to other members of Happy Hands.
They also ask the community to donate any pieces of material, wool, and brick-a-brack to them in order to assist with their projects. Questions can be directed to Elana Greyling at 082 863 8696.
