An ossuary crime

LEPHALALE – Several of the ossuaries in the memorial wall in Onverwacht Cemetery were seriously damaged between 6 and 10 October.
The ossuaries were vandalised and some broken into, however it appears that nothing was stolen. The contents of some of the ossuaries were removed and strewn across the grounds.
It is suspected that the ossuaries were broken into using a homemade metal object similar to a crowbar.
The security of the cemetery is a huge concern as there is limited fencing and upon investigation no security guards in the area.
A case has been opened at Lephalale SAPS and the matter is currently being investigated.
