LEPHALALE — Yet another life was claimed on the R518 (Marken Road) on Sunday morning around 04:50 between Shongoane and Marken. Four other people were seriously injured in the same incident.
According to W.O. Frans Mokoena, two vehicles, a white Chevrolet Avio (JLB 668 NW) and a white Toyota Quantum (CWO 7XH GP) were involved in the incident.
Innocent Mandla was declared dead on the scene by the paramedic team.
The other people involved in the collision were taken to hospital, some of them seriously injured.
A motorist who was traveling to the Marken direction came across the scene and reported the incident on the emergency radio channels. Lephalale Police and an ambulance service were called out to the scene.
This is one of the many serious car accidents where motorists are killed on the notorious R518 in a period of three weeks.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale police spokesperson, speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol are two of the main reasons for road accidents.
Lephalale Police opened five cases of drunken driving over the weekend of 30 July.
