LEPHALALE — A man, allegedly a security officer at Standard Bank in Lephalale town, shot his partner and then himself on Wednesday 16 January around 08:40. The victim was shot in front of the Standard Bank building in Fox Odendaal Street.
According to witnesses, the reason for the incident was due to an argument between the suspect and victim.
According to unconfirmed information, the woman is a cleaner at a company in the same area. She was shot and wounded in her upper body, but the wound was not fatal.
According to eye witnesses who work nearby, they first heard a shot and when they looked out of the window, they saw a man holding a pistol against his head. Moments later he pulled the trigger, shooting himself. He died on the scene, just a block away from where the victim was shot.
Mogol Post was at the scene just after the incident and the woman was lying on her stomach at the entrance of Standard Bank. She was bleeding heavily and seriously traumatized. She could however still react to questions.
She was transported to Ellisras Provincial Hospital by ambulance.
The names of the two involved are withheld until their loved ones are informed about the incident.
At the time of going to print, Colonel Daniel Ramakgoakgoa, Lephalale Police Station Commander, confirmed that cases of inquest and attempted murder were opened at Lephalale SAPS.
