SHONGOANE — The body of a 61-year-old man was found in the shallow waters of the Palala River near Shongoane 1 and 2 on Saturday 16 January. According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale police spokesperson, bystanders found the body and the matter was referred to the police. There were allegations that he must have been wounded before he died, but W.O. Mokoena says the cause of his death still remains to be determined. There is also a possibility that his wounds could have been caused by fish and crabs.
According to his family, the last time they saw him was on Friday 15 January when he was on his way to a function in Shongoane 2. W.O Mokoena says he was a well-known man in the area.
No-one has been arrested in connection with this incident and a case of inquest per CAS 14/01/2016 is opened.
His identity is withheld until completion of the post mortem.
