Body found, one arrested

SHONGOANE — A 32 year old man, Herman Moabi, was arrested for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Catharine Mokobe (34) in Shongoane X1.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale SAPS Cluster spokesperson, the police have reason to believe that he could be involved in Catherine’s murder. Mokoena said members of the local community found the decomposed body of a woman near Shongoane X1 on 21 September 2017.
The body was later identified as that of Catherine Mokobe who was, however, never reported missing until the gruesome discovery. Moabi was arrested on 30 September around 04:30 in Shongoane X2 (Marikana).
According to Police, at the time of going to press, the motive for the incident was still unknown.
Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, Provincial spokesperson, said in a statement that the motive will probably unfold as Police investigations continue.
Moabi appeared in Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Monday 2 October on a charge of murder and according to Cpt Ditsela, Villa Nora SAPS Station Commander, the case is postponed to 10 October 2017. He remains in detention in Villa Nora SAPS holding cells.
