Body recovered from Mogol River

LEPHALALE — Lephalale SAPS are investigating a case of inquest after the body of Jonas Letswalo (in his late 40’s) of Marapong was recovered from the Mogol River outside Lephalale on Sunday 14 January around 12:30.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Letswalo was fishing in the river near the Mogol Bridge on the R518 with his friends when his fishing line got stuck in the river. Mokoena says he went into the water in an attempt to retrieve the line when he disappeared under the water. His fellow anglers contacted Lephalale SAPS and his body was later recovered by the Lephalale SAPS Search and Rescue Team.
The true cause of his death could not be confirmed by the time of going to print due to the post mortem investigation still being in progress.
The police in Limpopo urge community members to be extremely careful when participating in different activities around rivers and dams following a number of incidents of drowning reported recently.
