MARAPONG — The 8-year-old Jan Katlego Modimola from Marapong was reported missing by his mother on Sunday 25 November around 20:00 after she last saw him around 07:00 on Sunday morning.
According to Col Ramakgoakgoa, Lephalale SAPS Station Commander, the police were called out on Monday 26 November around 21:50 to search for the boy at the old sewerage dam. On arrival they saw sneakers and clothes on the edge of the dam. While searching the shallow water they spotted the body of a child. It was clear that he was dead.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Cluster spokesperson, Jan and two of his friends (9 and 10 years old) went swimming in a nearby sewerage dam that was allegedly covered and fenced. Jan got stuck in the dam and his two friends ran home and told his mother what happened.
The child was identified by his mother, Pauline Matlakala Modimola as her son, Jan Katlego Modimola, born on 8 June 2010.
An inquest case docket was opened and the investigations continue.
