LEPHALALE – The annual Mogol Club’s Sport Star of the Year function for 2015 took place on Tuesday 1 March in the function hall and was as usual as prestigious as can be. This is the event where Mogol Club honours all the members of the various sport sub-sections for their achievements and contributions throughout the year.
Dr. Neels Gerber, general manager of the club and master of ceremony, thanked the guests for their presence where after Thys Smith, Mogol Club’s Sport Star for 2014 started the evening with the traditional torch ceremony. Reverand Johan Dörnbrack opened the evening’s proceedings and Mr. Johan Wepener, vice chairman of the Mogol Club, officially welcomed everybody to the function on behalf of Exxaro. The well-known Mr. Wynand Claassen acted as guest speaker.
Several medals and trophies were handed out to all the winners (see article on page 19).
The talented Werdie van Staden was awarded the Ben Alberts trophy for Sport Star of the Year 2015. Werdie won a gold medal at the IFAA World Bowhunters championships – a true world champion and bright star on the horizon! Werdie was also awarded the trophy for Senior Sportman of the Year.
Dr. Gerber thanked all the people that were involved in making the evening a huge success.
