Burning vehicle claims 4 lives

LEPHALALE — On Sunday 29 November, a case of culpable homicide was opened at Lephalale Police after four people died in a motor vehicle crash. The incident happened around 17:00 on the R518 (Marken Road).

According to Police, a Toyota Yaris was travelling from direction Marken to Lephalale when it collided head-on with a Ford Ranger, which was travelling from the opposite direction.

There were five occupants in the Yaris, including the driver. Three of them were trapped in the vehicle, which caught fire. According to Police, they burned to death in the car. A fourth person was found outside the car, but he was certified dead on the scene. The person who survived sustained serious injuries and he was transported to Ellisras District Hospital.

The driver of the Ford Ranger and his passenger also sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

At the time of going to print, the cause of the incident, as well as the identities of the deceased people, were not confirmed yet.

Several vehicle accidents occurred in Lephalale over the weekend. On Saturday 28 November, a seriously injured patient was transported to Mediclinic Lephalale after two vehicles crashed at the Silver Charm traffic light.

On Sunday around 20:45, two people were injured in an accident next to Elegant Fuel Filling Station. They were transported to Ellisras District Hospital.

On Monday morning around 02:00, two injured patients were transported to Ellisras District Hospital after a motor vehicle accident at the Nelson Mandela and Palala Street crossing.
