GROBLERSBRUG — A white Mercedes Sprinter with registration number JCM 423 MP entered the Groblersbrug border post port on Tuesday 4 April at about 20:15 with the intention to cross to Zimbabwe via Botswana.
The vehicle was stopped and searched by Groblersbrug Police and they found that the VIN number of the vehicle was tampered with.
The driver, Mr. Cedrick Chimwala, (29) indicated that he borrowed the vehicle for private use from his employer. The passengers in the car was Yusufu Balakasi (44) a Malawian citizen and Gideon Mokoena (44) a South African citizen.
Chimwala managed to run away during the investigation, but he was arrested again around 7 km from the border post on Wednesday 5 April at about 06:40.
A case docket for the possession of a suspected stolen vehicle was opened at Tom Burke SAPS.
All three suspects were arrested and detained and the vehicle confiscated. The value of the vehicle is approximately R550 000.
