LEPHALALE — Early Friday morning, 26 October, a black VW Polo overturned on the R33 multiple times. The incident happened around 60 km from Lephalale.
The driver, Johannes Mabela Mokazi (36) and passengers Lizzy Ngobeni (29), Thapelo Ngobeni (10 months) and Johanna Ngoepe (50) were in the car travelling from Lephalale to Vaalwater.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale SAPS Cluster Spokesperson, the axis of the tyre broke and Mokazi allegedly lost control of the vehicle. It landed on the gravel strip next to the road after which the vehicle overturned multiple times.
According to an eye witness who arrived on the scene seconds after the incident, emergency services were quick to respond and nearby farmers also reacted swiftly to assist on the scene.
WO Mokoena confirmed that all occupants were seriously injured, except Lizzy Ngobeni who was slightly injured. At the time of going to print, Mokazi, Thapelo Ngobeni and Ngoepe were still in the Ellisras District Hospital for treatment.
