MARAPONG — On Saturday 8 July the Medupi Winter Career Expo (MWCEP) team held a series of events as has been planned for each weekend for the duration of the programme.
44 learners were transported from their Marapong Housing residence to Tielelelo Secondary School where they used the school’s sport facilities for different sporting codes.
They were placed in different departments and allocated a mentor, provided with accommodation, meals, and transportation and are under the supervision of two Community Liaison Officers, Frans Sekgobane and Lebogang Rantlhakgoa.
During the week they reported on site at 10:00 and knocked off at 15:00 and the week served as an induction period. The learners were taken through site presentations including safety, codes of conduct, site structuring and the project’s socio-economic footprint illustration videos.
Learners had the privilege of interacting with their mentors together with programme lead Senior Construction Manager, Zandi Shange.
She encouraged them to speak out and interact as much as they could, so that they come out of the programme with a fresh perspective of what career path they would like to pursue.
“Find your passion and follow it, and ensure that your future is bright so that you can contribute to our country. This opportunity is structured to assist in ensuring that the process of career selection is as seamless as possible,” said Shange.
According to Eskom Medupi the day was designed to create a team spirit between the learners and their mentors, and for them to get to know each other before the site work begins.
Activities of the day included a soccer session, volleyball, chess, and snakes and ladders that took them to task by testing their creative thinking against their mentors.
This coming weekend learners will embark on a trip to a Game Reserve for their weekend activities.
