Carjacking on R510

LEPHALALE — A white Toyota Hilux with registration number DTZ 576 L was stolen after the driver offered two unknown males a lift on the morning of 10 September.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena from SAPS Lephalale Cluster, the two men stood at a filling station in OR Tambo Drive when the driver of the Toyota Hilux offered them a lift in the direction of Thabazimbi.
Mokoena says when the driver told the passengers that he had to drop them at a point where he wanted to turn left to Vaalwater, they insisted that they need to be taken to nearby accommodation. He agreed and while on the way to their destination, the two suspects started to assault the owner of the Hilux and pushed him out of the vehicle, driving off with the vehicle and leaving the driver next to the road (R510).
The owner of the Hilux noticed a nearby lodge and went there to seek help.
WO Mokoena warns all drivers not to offer lifts to unknown individuals. “What happened to this man is a result of giving lifts to strangers with ulterior motives” he said.
At the time of going to print the two suspects were still at large. Anyone with any information on the suspects or the Toyota Hilux with registration number DTZ 576 L can contact the nearest police station or dial the toll free number 086 001 011.
The value of the Toyota Hilux is approximately R270 000.
