SHONGOANE — An inquest case has been opened by Villa Nora SAPS after an 11 year old boy drowned in the Phalala River in Shongoane on Sunday 27 March at around 17:00.
According to Villa Nora police, a group of young boys went to play at the river and while playing, the deceased, identified as Peter Makgae, went missing. A search found nothing.
Later during the day a by-passer who wishes to remain anonymous, found the boy’s body in the river. The police and his grandmother were called to the scene while community pulled him out of the river and he was declared dead by the EMS.
Peter was staying with his grandmother as his mother had previously passed away. No foul play is suspected.
The community of Shongoane believes that there is a large snake that lives in the river that ropes in children and kills them.
