LEPHALALE — Lieutenant Precious Munyai of Lephalale SAPS gave feedback during the CPF meeting last Thursday on the percentage increase and decrease in various crime categories during the time period January 2015 to January 2016.
She explained the different categories of crime by description of the offence; murder, attempted murder, aggravating robbery, rape, assault GHB, common assault, robbery with weapon other than fire arm and common robbery fall under the category of Contact Crimes.
Car hijacking, house robbery and business robbery fall under the category of Trio Crime.
Attempted theft of motor vehicle, residential burglary, business robbery, stock theft, theft of motor vehicle, theft from motor vehicle, theft out of motor vehicle, attempted house breaking business and attempted house breaking residential fall under the category Property Crimes.
Theft, shoplifting and fraud fall under the category of All other serious Crimes.
Lt. Munyai reported that contact related crimes like arson and malicious damage to property increase by 11% for the above period. Property crimes also increased by 11.9%. She said that they have a problem with house breakings and business breakings especially in Marapong, because the security of the houses is not sufficient. According to Lt. Munyai, Adelsa Court in Church Street is also a problem area.
Contact crimes decreased by 63% for the above period.
Crimes which falls in the category All other serious crimes, decreased with 17%.
