Dead in truck on Medupi site

LEPHALALE — A Medupi contractor was found dead in an idling work truck at change of shift on Saturday 7 May at about 07:00 at a coal stockyard at Medupi.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale SAPS spokesperson, it seems like the deceased was waiting in the truck and he turned the heater of the truck on and closed the windows. “His colleagues couldn’t think why he didn’t show up after his shift and they went to look for him” says W.O. Mokoena. It was then that his body was found in the idling truck. At the time of going to press, his name was still withheld by the police. The deceased was residing in Marapong x4.
In a news release Eskom said on Monday that “Eskom management has been in contact with families and the South African Police Services are investigating the case. The utility extended its condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the worker who passed away”.
