Domestic violence — the norm?

LEPHALALE — The 40-year-old Thathapedi Mishak Sebetha was arrested for Domestic Violence in Shongoane X2 on Friday 21 February late afternoon.

According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Police Cluster spokesperson, his ex-girlfriend contacted Police on Friday after she was allegedly threatened by Sebetha.

He allegedly threatened to “blow off her head” after she told him that she wants to break up with him.

She was waiting at a bus station in Onverwacht around 13:00 on Friday when he called her to say that he wanted to see her. He said: Today is your last day. I am going to blow up your head. I am going to wait until you get off this bus …”.

He also shared photos of a firearm on Facebook and showed her he had a gun.

The victim opened a DV case and completed a Domestic Violence report. She was also advised to proceed to court for a restraining order against him.

He appeared in Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Monday 24 February and the case is postponed to Thursday 27 February.

He was previously found guilty in Thabazimbi on a case of DV where he paid R500 as an admission of guilt. The second case of Assault with the intention of grievous bodily harm was later withdrawn.
