LEPHALALE — Computer Applications Technology (CAT) learners of Hoërskool Ellisras took part in the annual Computer Olympiad presented by the Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA) earlier this year.
A total of 5 531 learners countrywide participated.
During the first round 65 learners from EHS (15 Grade 12’s, 30 Grade 11’s and 20 Grade 10’s) participated and 58 received certificates (11 gold, 15 silver and 32 bronze).
Fifteen learners from EHS qualified for the second round and for the first time in the three years a learner from EHS qualified for the finals.
According to the Manager of IITPSA, Michael Cameron, it is remarkable that the learners from EHS obtained a third and first place in the Province.
Gopolang Mokgoto (Grade 12) obtained the first place, and Lethabo Mawilla (Grade 11) and Janco von Rönge (Grade 10) shared the third place.
It was the third time that EHS has enrolled for this Olympiad and it is also the third time they were announced as Limpopo winners (2014, 2018 and 2019).
Johan Heystek, Head of the Department of Information Technology (IT) and CAT, says he is very proud, and he encourages all CAT learners to participate again in 2020.
