Empty stands a headache

LEPHALALE — Lt. Precious Munyai, on behalf of Lephalale SAPS, requests assistance from Lephalale Municipality regarding empty stands during the meeting of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) last Thursday 18 February.
“The owner of the stand does not stay there, but it is his responsibility to see that the stand is clean and the grass is short. The criminals hide their stolen items in the long grass on these empty stands. It is also a good hiding place for the criminals” she said.
Cllr. Astrid Basson from Lephalale Municipality replied that there are very specific bylaws in this regard. The owner is responsible for cleaning the stand and if he doesn’t comply with the rules, the municipality organizes for the stand to be cleaned for the account of the owner.
Lofty Fourie, who acted as chairperson for the CPF meeting, asked the question if the police or municipality are in a position to act in cases of contravention of the bylaw.
