LEPHALALE — Members of Lephalale SAPS had a successful operation on Monday 21 November around 16:00 after they received information about two illegal gambling places in Onverwacht.
Four suspects were charged for illegal gambling according to the Limpopo Gambling Act 3/2013. They were also in possession of computer software with proof of credits that were won with a gambling game without a legal gambling license.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Police spokesperson, another 24 suspects were arrested and charged under the contravention of the Limpopo Gambling Act 3/2013 regulation 91 (3) which states that gambling at any unlicensed place is against the law. WO Mokoena said they also confiscated 47 computer screens and money at the one illegal gambling business as well as 67 computers, monitor screens and money at the second illegal gambling place.
Two cases were opened at Lephalale SAPS per CAS169/11/2016 and CAS170/11/2016.
At the time of going to press, WO Mokoena confirmed that 19 of the 24 suspects already paid an amount of R200 each as admission of guilt and they were no longer in custody. The others appeared in Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
