MARAPONG — Mbedzi Kone from Thulare Park in Marapong lodged a complaint with the Mogol Post on Thursday 28 April regarding the municipality not removing garbage bags and not emptying the large garbage bins in time. The result is the accumulation of garbage bags which is a health risk to the community.
Mogol Post went to the municipality in order to get a solution. On Friday afternoon 29 April, the municipality gave feedback and said that the complaint at Marapong has been addressed.
The municipality responded by saying that they are well aware of the situation as random inspections are conducted on a regular basis. The plan was to clean the area with a TLB and a tipper truck. The TLB is within Public Works division and arrangements were made with them to assist the municipality from 2 May 2016.
The municipality asked the community to note that the challenge of illegal dumping areas is common in Marapong and also around the skip bins, this is mainly because the community dispose building rubble and tree branches which the compactor trucks cannot load as they use the hydraulic system. The other cause of the problem in this particular spot is that there were only 2x6m³ skip bins which is not enough, but a third skip has been placed there.
A skip loader truck is budgeted for 2016/2017 to address this challenge.
The division will continue to address the challenge of illegal dumping in this area.
