Groblersbrug SAPS wide awake

GROBLERSBRUG — On Thursday 20 April around 06:30, members of Groblersbrug Border Policing were on duty when a green and white International Freightliner truck of FJ du Toit Transport with registration number BX 09JY GP approached them. The vehicle was on its way from Botswana to South Africa.
The driver was requested to open the trailers in order to search them. After indicating that the one trailer was loaded with coal, SAPS members opened it and found boxes of illicit creams.
The driver was later properly interviewed upon which he confessed to the crime of smuggling illicit creams through the border. The boxes of creams was offloaded, properly inspected and confiscated along with the truck and two trailers.
A case for Smuggling of Illicit Creams was opened at Tom Burke SAPS and the case will be further investigated.
The driver and five other suspects were arrested and detained at Witpoort SAPS cells and one Freightliner truck registration number BX 09JY GP, two white SA Body Trailers with registration numbers CY 264011 and CY 264005 valued at R1 100 000 as well as 477 boxes of illicit creams were confiscated. The total value of the boxes of cream is R4 353 000.
The confiscated goods were detained at SAPS Tom Burke and later handed over to Customs Groblersbrug for detention.
The suspects appeared in Witpoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday 21 April 2017.
On the same day around 20:30, Sgt Serumula and members of Groblersbrug Border Policing were on duty at the arrival search point when a white 15 t truck with registration number AJD 2876 approached them. The vehicle was on its way from Botswana to South Africa. The driver was requested to open the back of the truck – he indicated that the truck was loaded with hair extensions. Sgt Serumula opened it with a custom official and found the truck to be loaded with boxes of illicit creams. The creams were offloaded, inspected and confiscated along with the truck. A case for Smuggling with illicit creams was opened at Tom Burke SAPS and the case will be investigated by DPCI Polokwane.
The passenger and owner of the goods were arrested and detained at Witpoort SAPS cells.
The truck with the estimated value of R250 000 as well as the boxes of cream with the estimated value of R6 302 800 were confiscated. The suspect is in custody and will appear in Palala Magistrate’s Court on Monday 24 April.
