Health care of choice?

LEPHALALE — Mogol Post received a complaint from IC Health, the private clinic in Lephalale Town in Yskor Street.
According to them, two men who work for Stefanutti Stocks (on the Groblersbrug Road project) came to them on Thursday 30 March. They needed medical care but were looking for the Kalafong Medical Centre near Hoërskool Ellisras. In reply to the question as to why they needed to go to Kalafong MC, they said that they were not allowed to go to any other clinic.
The lady in charge at IC Health phoned their contact at Stefanutti’s head office (Amanda) and Amanda informed her that they (Stefanutti) received an order from the Mayor of Lephalale to only make use of Kalafong MC as it is managed and owned by people from the “village” (Seleka).
According to IC Health, they have a standing order with Stefanutti, but the two men refused to use their services, because, according to them, the Mayor checks all the invoices and fitness certificates to ensure that they only go to Kalafong MC.
According to a staff member of IC Health, the sister who works at Kalafong MC is from Rustenburg and not Seleka.
Lephalale Municipality Mayor, Cllr Jack Maeko, says he dismisses all allegations levelled against him and would like to make it clear that he has no link to the operation of health facilities as alleged by the complainant. “The allegations are frivolous and unfounded and the Mayor respects people’s right to visit any health care facility of their choice” says Conscious Chiloane, Communications Manager at Lephalale Municipality.
