LEPHALALE — Four men lost their lives on the Marken Road (R518), 18 km from Lephalale next to the Tafelkop (affectionately known as Thaba ya Mabula) on Saturday night 30 January around 19:30.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Police spokesperson, Abram Ramudi (30), the 40-year-old Lazarus Mpho Molefe (better known as DJ Molefe and the driver of the car), the 29-year-old Molatelo Frans Madiba (Hip Hop artist “Big Fish”) and the 22-year-old Mpho Motabo (better known as DJ Mpho) were on their way from Steilloop to Lephalale to celebrate DJ Molefes’ birthday party at the popular Sabatho Joint in Marapong. The driver of the green Hyundai Elantra in which they were travelling, allegedly tried to overtake two cars which were driving in front of them. The Hyundai hit a Tata tipper truck head-on. Four men died on the scene and one survived and is, according to W.O. Mokoena, in hospital with severe injuries. Mokoena said Stephans Dikgake and Pekenene Moatshe, who were in the truck, survived the incident.
A lot of beer bottles as well as an empty container of Bells whiskey were found in the wreck of the Hyundai.
Words of condolences streamed in on Facebook from friends, family members and fans of the DJs. The owner of Sabatho Media and Sabatho Joint said:
“May your souls rest in perfect peace. My heart is broken into pieces, I have never seen what I saw today in my entire life. The entertainment industry has been robbed. We shall meet again in heaven my brothers”.
Elvis Matheere, who was scheduled to MC the event, said: “I was supposed to be MC and now I am sitting here thinking life is too short. We were supposed to be celebrating and now we are sitting here crying.”
