Learners received back to school essentials

The learners showing off their brand new school goods

STEENBOKPAN — Lerekhureng Combined School at Steenbokpan was the happy recipient of Back to School Campaign goodies on Friday 19 January 2018. The goods were handed over at the school in Steenbokpan.
Paul Sehlake, Exxaro Wellness Champion, together with Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena from Lephalale SAPS and members of Lephalale Social Crime Prevention, other stakeholders and the school governing body are partners in the Back to School Campaign.
Each stakeholder had the opportunity to address the 315 learners and WO Mokoena from Cluster Communication addressed the learners about how to be careful when strangers approach them and to rather not walk alone, but in groups.
They were also taught how to behave and the importance of attending school was emphasized. Mokoena also told them that their private parts are private and no one is allowed to touch it. “If you don’t feel comfortable you have to tell your parents or someone you trust because your bodies belong to you,” he said.
The police emergency number was given to the learners and they were warned not to use the number to make fake calls, but to keep it at a safe place for emergencies. “You shouldn’t talk to or accept anything from strangers,” Mokoena concluded.
The main purpose of the day was to hand over “back to school essentials” such as book covers, name labels, writing pads, cellotape, pens, rulers, calculators, toys, glue, etc. to the learners.
Sehlake thanks all the sponsors who contributed to the success of the day.
“Together we can do it,” he says.
