Life for rape

ABBOTSPOORT — The 50-year-old Rakobe Japhta Majadibodu was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Lephalale Regional Court on Friday 14 February for the rape of his stepdaughter in 2016. She was 15 years old at the time of the offence.

The offences took place on Abbotspoort in the Villa Nora Policing area on 1 February 2016 and 17 July 2016 respectively.

The family lived in one house that consisted of two bedrooms and a lounge among others. The victim and her siblings stayed in one room and their parents stayed in the other bedroom.

According to Police, in one of the incidents, Majadibodu was preparing to go to work around 04:00 when he entered the bedroom where the victim and her siblings were sleeping. He woke up the smaller children and told them they should go and watch TV. The victim remained in the bedroom where Majadibodu had sexual intercourse with her against her will. He then took a bath in the presence of the victim and left for work. He allowed the other children to went back to the bedroom to sleep further.

Police confirmed that these incidents happened in the absence of the mother and she was not aware of her husband’s behaviour.

After a while the victim reported the incidents to the school principal and the matter was referred to a social worker who contacted the police.

Majadibodu was arrested on 20 July 2020 and the case was assigned to Sgt Ramahuta of Lephalale Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit for investigation.
