SHONGOANE — Motswere Jan Makgae (20) was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Lephalale Regional Court on a charge of rape on Friday 6 April.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena from Lephalale Cluster, Makgae was arrested after an incident where a 13 year old girl was walking home after the school bus drove off without picking her up. She went to school in Shongoane 2 and walked home using a footpath that goes between bushes.
WO Mokoena says Makgae followed her into the bushes to a secluded area between Shongwane 3 and Bangalong Villages where he subsequently raped her.
Jan Hermanus Diedericks (43) was also sentenced to life imprisonment on a charge of rape in Lephalale’s Regional Court last week.
This sentence followed an incident where Diedericks took the 15 year old girl to his place near Lephalale Town on 15 July 2016 and raped her. According to WO Mokoena, Diedericks visited the victim’s parents regularly.
SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba, commended the SAPS Lephalale Family Violence, Child protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for a job well done and he encouraged all other SAPS members, especially in the Detective environment, to double their efforts until all perpetrators of offence are permanently removed from society.
