Lifelong / 20 years for rape

VILLA NORA — William (Mathousand) Manewa (47) was sentenced to life imprisonment in Lephalale’s Regional Court on Friday 29 July.
It is alleged that on 2 – 4 June 2014, the accused took advantage of two under aged girls and raped them in his house in Shongoane 2 Philadirwa Village. He told the children that it was his payment for looking after them.
The children’s behaviour changed at school and the teacher noticed it. She reported it to the principal of the school and a social worker was called for assistance.
After the social worker’s investigation, a case of rape was opened as per Villa Nora CAS 18/06/2014.
Manewa was arrested on 6 June and the case was investigated by D/Const. Frans Thulare of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.
In another rape case, Lucky Zakhele Nkosi (26) was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in Lephalale’s Regional Court on Friday. According to W.O. Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Police spokesperson, both of them will be transported to Polokwane to serve their sentences.
