LEPHALALE — Lephalale Municipality held a celebration day to officially close Women’s Month on Wednesday 31 August at Mogol Club.
The new Speaker of the Council, Regina Molokomme, acted as programme director. She started by saying: “today is our day and our main responsibility is to show the women of the whole of Waterberg that we care”.
Pastor MJ Moabi opened the event with scripture reading and prayer.
Cllr Jack Maeko, Mayor of Lephalale Municipality, surprised everyone when he invited his wife to the podium.
He said in his speech that challenges we all face are unemployment, moral degeneration, drugs, alcohol and substance abuse, education drop-outs and gender base violence. “Research has revealed that one in every four South African women is a victim of physical abuse and every six hours a woman is abused by her intimate partner. What do we do about it?” he asked.
The women were also addressed on other topics such as spiritual upliftment, reproductive health and how to turn your dream into reality.
