LEPHALALE- The case of 23 men and women arrested for the riots in Marapong has been postponed to the 9th of March 2016 pending further investigation by the Investigating Officer (IO). The case is being moved to the Lephalale Regional court, this after they made a brief appearance before Magistrate Elmien Lewies at the Lephalale Magistrate court on Friday 29 January 2016.
The 23 were arrested in September 2015 after they allegedly burned 21 busses belonging to Lowveld Bus Service, the Marapong Municipal office and Police satellite office, as well as vandalizing the Marapong complex and Library.
One of the accused’s charge has been laid off due to illness, and Magistrate Lewies saw it fit to allow one of the bail conditions to be amended. The accused were initially not allowed to attend a public meeting but now they can if they inform their IO.
The accused have been out on bail.
