LEPHALALE — Dr. Thulani Khumalo is the new ear, nose, throat, head and neck specialist at Mediclinic Lephalale, correctly described as a specialist in Otorhinolaryngology.
Growing up in Kwazulu Natal, Dr. Khumalo was a star student, but when he arrived at the Sefato Makgatho Health Science University to start his medical studies, he realised that there are a lot of talented people out there and that he would have to work hard to succeed. He finished his medical studies at Sefato Makgatho after which it took him another five years to specialize.
He works at Dr. George Mahhari Academic Hospital (the former Garankua Hospital) but after meeting Dr. Landman earlier this year he was encouraged to apply for a visiting specialist position at Mediclinic Lephalale.
This father of three girls, aged between 7 and 16, says he is looking forward to the opportunity. He realises that competition is everywhere, but he has something new to bring to Lephalale. “I am trained and have the skills to use the latest technology called “endoscopic surgery” which I will bring to Lephalale.” he said.
Dr. Khumalo says he believes in taking everything one step at a time. Is he pro South Africa? “Yes I will never leave my country. People have different expectations, but mine is to stay here and serve my country’s people”.
And his family? “They will stay in Pretoria in the beginning, but as I said – let’s take it one step at a time” he concluded.
Dr. Khumalo will be available for consultation at Mediclinic Lephalale from 12 July for the next three weeks.
