Mogol Cricket off to a flying start

LEPHALALE — Mogol Cricket hosted the first 40 over match for the new season against a determined POBC 2nd Team from Mokopane this past weekend.
With the unpredictable weather looming on the horizon, it was a close call as to whether the match would continue or not. Luckily the sun accommodated the players long enough to see a great day of cricket.
The visitors with bat in hand and occupying the stumps first, set the run chase total but were immediately met with some fierce bowling from the Mogol opening bowlers. Mathew Blignaut contributed 4 overs bowled, conceded only a single run and also picked up 2 wickets. Jaco Hurn and CJ Swart were devastating with ball in hand, putting the visitors under continuous pressure and bagging 6 wickets together for only 26 runs. Congrats Matt, Jaco and CJ.
A massive and valiant effort from the Mogol side ended the visitors batting session at the 30th over ALL OUT for a struggling 86 runs.
It was the local boys from Mogols’ turn to get some willow on leather but it was not going to be smooth sailing for them.
POBC made sure of that with Mogol losing their first wicket in the very first over with only 3 deliveries received by an equal and very aggressive openings bowler from the visiting team.
With a couple of wickets in the bag for the visitors it was difficult to determine who would walk away victorious and who would be sent back to the drawing board. That was until Jaco Hurn from Mogol unleashed a spectacular batting effort and contributed 45 runs from only 48 deliveries (not out), sealing the deal and confirming the local side the victors when they caught up to the visitors with 23 overs and 3 wickets to spare.
The Mogol Cricket Club thanks all their sponsors and supporters. They invite all the couch dwelling potential players to accompany them on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17:00 at the Mogol Cricket field.
