VAALWATER — Vernon Rorich will take up the reigns as Headmaster at Waterberg Academy at the beginning of the 2020 academic year. He has a total of 29 years as an educator, 23 of them as Executive Head, Senior Headmaster, Deputy Headmaster or Head of Department or Sport.
Rorich is currently the Executive Head at Waterstone College in Johannesburg, a portfolio he has occupied for the last four years. Waterstone College is a highly regarded independent school that is part of the Curro Group. His current role is centred on establishing shared identity and ethos across the school involving core curriculum approaches and assessment procedures as well as a distinct responsibility to develop the school and its strategic operation. He is a key leader in enabling the priming and preparation of pupils academically, physically, socially and spiritually for the world of work and life in the twenty-first century. He is always ensuring a dynamic, caring, well-rounded community with emphasis on self-discipline, emotional and spiritual development consistent with a Christian foundation.
Before this appointment, Rorich spent seven years as Senior Headmaster at Southdowns College in Irene (A member of ISASA), Centurion, overseeing the entire College of 1 400 pupils from Grade 00 – Grade 12, including the Boarding School. During this tenure, he also personally pioneered an enrichment programme unique in South Africa.
From 1998 to 2007 he was the Headmaster at Sutherland High School in Centurion responsible for managing all aspects of the school with over 1 300 pupils, 80 permanent staff and 35 support staff members. Here he played a pivotal role in contributing to the development of the school’s unique leadership program, growing leaders for tomorrow.
Rorich holds a Bachelor of Education (Honours) Degree in Educational Management as well as a Higher Diploma in Education and a Further Diploma in Education. He has also completed numerous professional development programmes including School Management and Advancement, Leadership Development, Coaching, Mentoring and Skills Development. He is registered with the South African Council of Educators (SACE). He is familiar with the policies, programmes and culture of the ISASA community of independent schools, of which the Waterberg Academy is a member.
During his educational career, Rorich held the portfolio of Head of Sport, and he is now an avid golfer.
