VAALWATER — The Night of Stars Music Evening which this year was held on Friday 6 May at Waterberg Academy in Vaalwater has become something of a tradition over the last four years.
The String Ensemble and brass band from Beaulieu Preparatory School in Midrand, Gauteng, come to the Vaalwater area for their annual band camp.
“All parents, students and educators, as well as members of the public, are then invited to attend an evening of musical excellence at the Academy,” said Lyn Swales, organiser of the evening.
The String Ensemble entertained all with three of their most beautiful songs while the Brass Band was supported by some other instruments and showed off their superior technical ability.
In response to the Beaulieu strings and brass band, Academy’s four marimba bands stepped up to the challenge and played some beautiful songs.
There were also individual students from the Academy that performed solo or in duets.
“Our musicians will have two more opportunities this year to showcase their talent. The Eisteddfod in the first week of September is open to our learners and learners of surrounding schools and even members of the public. Excellent musical talent is always on display at the Eisteddfod, much of it coming from the Academy,” said Mark Godfrey, principal of Waterberg Academy.
“There is also the Music Evening that is going to take place later in the year where only the better entrants to the auditions are put on stage. This is always a sparkling evening and anticipated with much pleasure,” Godfrey continued.
