LEPHALALE — The 24-year-old Lanton Mashabira and the 25-year-old Astor Zivanani escaped out of the Lephalale SAPS holding cells. The discovery was made on Wednesday morning 8 July. It is estimated that they escaped between 23:00 (Tuesday night) and 05:00 Wednesday morning.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Police Cluster spokesperson, they are both Zimbabwean nationals who were awaiting trial after they had been arrested for several residential and business burglaries earlier.
They escaped through the roof of the holding cells after cutting the roof with a saw. According to WO Mokoena, they do not know where the suspects got hold of the saw.
At the time of going to print, they were still at large, and no arrests were made yet.
