Pastor arrested for assault

MARAPONG — Pastor Jan Moswathupa (38) spent a night in Lephalale Police holding cells. According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena from Lephalale SAPS Cluster, Pastor Jan Moswathupa was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a member of his congregation. According to WO Mokoena, Pastor Moswathupa allegedly went to Mr Mokwele (22) on Wednesday 13 September around 09:30 and he asked him to go to his house with him. Upon their arrival, he confronted him with an alleged affair he had with someone in the church.
WO Mokoena says they started an argument which resulted in Pastor Moswathupa assaulting Mokwele and hitting him with a sjambok. The Pastor thereafter took Mokwele back to his residence in Marapong.
Mokwele opened a cast of assault GBH and the Pastor was arrested.
He appeared in Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 21 September and he was granted bail of R500. The case is postponed to 30 October 2017.
