STEENBOKPAN — “In the Steenbokpan community and surroundings, we have the highest number of specially protected wildlife in the whole cluster, and there is a very urgent and strong appeal from the community and conservancies to reinforce the training of police members,” said Hennie van Deventer, Chairperson of the Rural Safety Forum. The Forum held their monthly meeting on Wednesday 19 June at Mogol Club.
He said that incidents of protected wildlife poaching occur regularly in the area and they need better-skilled officers to investigate such cases.
“They have to know how to handle the crime scene and the processing of the suspect/s so that we can have an excellent prosecution ratio. We appeal to the police to establish a special training course where members will be able to learn more about this,” Van Deventer explained.
