LEPHALALE — A member from Public Order Policing (POP) in Modimolle, Warrant Officer Tselana, was injured after Lordwick Mashiane (36), a worker at Exxaro Grootegeluk Coal Mine, knocked him over with his Datsun vehicle during the Exxaro protests over the weekend.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Mashiane was supposed to appear in Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Monday 18 September, but he was admitted in Ellisras Provincial Hospital on Monday due to illness. The court appearance is postponed until further notice.
On Saturday 16 September, a woman was badly injured after the vehicle in which she was a passenger crashed into a burnt-out bus. The burnt-out bus was a result of the protest by Exxaro workers, allegedly about salary negotiations.
Several authorities have called for the bus to be removed as it was not visible at night.
By the time of going to print, it was unknown who the driver of the vehicle was.
