WITPOORT — On Thursday 11 August it was reported that six men had escaped from Witpoort prison after the morning cell visit by police.
Two of the six men, the 24 year old Moses Modimola and the 28 year old Jerry Machaba were re-arrested in a shack in Jerusalem, Boksburg on Friday 12 August. They appeared in court on Monday 15 August for escaping from custody.
Lephalale police also reported on Monday that the 36 year old Phineas Molangoane was re-arrested at around 19:00 on Sunday evening in Ivory Park, Tembisa, by the Lephalale Task Team.
Lephalale SAPS Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena says Molangoane was originally arrested on two counts of rape after he allegedly raped two girls he offered a lift to in a village in Lephalale almost a year ago. He is currently detained in Mokopane holding cells after which he will appear in court on cases of rape and escaping from lawful custody.
At the time of going to press, three more suspects were still on the loose. They are Silence Dube (23), Thomas Chuma (29) and Cleo Clifford Muhonhori (33).
The search for the above three suspects continues says Col. Ronel Otto, Limpopo Police spokesperson. She warned the public that these men were previously arrested on charges of rape and armed robbery. “They should be considered armed and dangerous and the public is advised not to approach them, but rather to contact the police” she said.
Jerry Machaba and Moses Modimola appeared in Witpoort Magistrate’s court on Monday 15 August and the case is postponed to 25 August.
Anyone with any information about their whereabouts are requested to contact Capt. Rakhubela at 082 469 1353.
