LEPHALALE — The passing out parade of the Lephalale based South Africa Military Health Service (SAMHS) January 2016 Military Skills Development System (MSDS) basic military training course was held at Mogol Club on Friday 10 June.
The prestigious occasion was opened by Chaplain M.J.T. Horkins and his message was that this was not the end of the journey, but a new beginning. “Focus on the journey ahead. One gets nothing without sacrifice and reach for what lies ahead. Never fear failure but fear being comfortable. Be persistently persistent. Never look back negatively, take what you’ve learnt and apply it to your life like an ointment” he said.
Deputy Surgeon General of the SA Military Health Service, Major General H.C. Grobler said: “time is the coin of your life, it is the only coin you have and only you can determine how you will spend it.”
He thanked the support staff and instructors for the hard work and dedication. “Without your professionalism the results achieved here would be far less. To have the best soldiers you need the best training team and I have full confidence in you.”
He emphasized the importance of the MSDS training. He said the knowledge they have received during their basic training has formed a vital part of who they are. “It has laid a solid foundation for your future success”.
He congratulated the recipients of the different certificates for achievement and he said: “it is not your aptitude that determines your altitude, but rather your attitude. With the right attitude, nothing is impossible. Use what you have learned here to benefit our country. I wish you all luck and good fortune in your future endeavours”.
He also thanked Col. V.P. Bala and the members of the parade for an excellent parade as well as the parents, family and friends of the January 2016 MSDS intake. “Without your support these members would not have been successful” he concluded.
Recruits then received certificates and medals for special achievements. Private K. Jansen van Vuuren received the shield for best overall recruit.
The event ended with a light lunch in the Mogol Club Function Hall for the recruits and their family and friends.
