SAPS crime report

LEPHALALE — Lieutenant Precious Monyai of Lephalale SAPS gave feedback during the CPF meeting last Thursday 18 August on the percentage increase and decrease in various crime categories comparing crime for the same month last year – July 2015 – July 2016.
Contact crime as well as assault GBH showed an increase. She says the main reason for the increase in contact crime is all the pubs in Marapong where the people gather, get drunk and get involved in a fight.
There is also an increase of 2.5% in property crime. Hotspots are Marapong, Essenhout Street, Werkendam, Oppikopi, Grootvlei, Rietspruit and Camelot. House breaking mostly occurs during the night and early morning hours.
Arson managed to decrease by 30.7% compared to the same time last year.
Drunken driving increased and 62.5% more drug arrests were made compared to last year’s arrests.
