LIMPOPO —8 A national plan to ensure a safer festive season was launched in Seshego outside Polokwane on Friday 13 October.
The operation “Operation Back to Basics – Safer Festive Season 2017/2018” will be held from the date of the launch on 13 October until 31 January 2018.
The launch of the operation was led by the Acting Deputy Minister of the Police, Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba and he was accompanied by Me Nandi Ndalane, the MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison in Limpopo, the Deputy National Commissioners, Provincial Commissioners from all eight Provinces as well as Senior Managers from all levels of command in the Province.
Lt Gen Mothiba welcomed everyone and the Acting National Commissioner pleaded with the community to support the police and to cooperate with them during the coming festive season and beyond. He urged them to refrain from criminals activities.
The Deputy National Commissioner of Policing, Lt Gen Fannie Masemola, explained the purpose of the event and he discussed the importance of child safety during the festive season.
A message of support was delivered by Kgoshi K.S Moloto and Mr F Kgasago of the Provincial Community Policing Forum and they encouraged the community to cooperate with Police and other role players within their communities. Mr Kgasago highlighted the importance of forming policing structures within communities and Moloto said criminals will be reported. The keynote address was delivered by the Deputy Minister of Police, Mr B.M. Mkongi.
Police killings, ritual attacks, domestic violence against women and children, amongst other serious crimes, were strongly condemned by the Minister. He further highlighted the importance of cooperation between the Police and Community during the festive season and that community members must not fall victim to criminals who will be targeting their savings.
New police vehicles were handed over to Limpopo Police stations by the Mr Mkongi and the Acting National Commissioner.
